Say WHAT?!

13 01 2012

That is the ONLY thing I can come up with here.

Wonder what the Habs will have to say about this

In case you haven’t heard, Mike Cammalleri was traded MID-GAME to Calgary for Rene Bourque.  You can read the release from Calgary regarding the trade here.

All I have to say is that it seems a bit wrong to blindside a player like this, especially one that has basically been the face of your organization for the last few years, not to mention an all-around great player and good guy.

I understand the salary cap space that this trade opens up for the Habs (Bourque has a $3.3 million hit; Cammalleri has a $6 million hit), but still, it seems wrong to tell a guy about a trade in the middle of a game.

But, at the end of the day, this is a dirty move.  I know hockey is a business, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do business.  This was the wrong way.  Plus, I know athletes and other celebrities are put on these pedestals, but at the end of they day, they’re people too (cue cheese-ball groans).  But personally, I’d feel pretty betrayed by the front office and whoever was responsible for being blindsided by basically being told I’m not needed anymore.

Honey badger NOT impressed.

What do you guys think?

UPDATE:  TSN caught up with Cammalleri and got an interview with him about his trade.  Click here to watch.
