Why we *want* to play.

5 09 2012

Leave it to Gongshow Hockey to create another beauty of a video. This time they focused all of their efforts on the outdoor or pond hockey aspect of the game. They organized a coast to coast Canada trip to have a little fun and capture why so many people love to play the game. I for one, would have liked to receive an invite for this trip. Oh well, maybe next time. So without further ado, here is the latest creation from the brilliant minds of Gongshow Hockey…

I don’t know about you, but this makes me want to venture up to Canada and brave the coldest of the cold to lace up some skates! Hope you enjoy the video as much as L and I did!

#TwitterJustGotHotter

12 04 2012

Ladies.  LADIES.  Patrick Sharp has returned to Twitter.  I REPEAT:  HIS ROYAL SEXINESS PATRICK SHARP IS ON DA TWITTA.  Follow him @10PSharp.  Like now.  Okay good.

Drool.....

I mean, come on, look at that face.  How could you not want to follow that face?  Or that flow?!  He’s a quick tan away from being Henrik Lundqvist’s twin, and we all know how I feel about Hanky.  Maybe I need to move to Thunder Bay to find my future hockey hubby, since the Staal family lives there too.  Yep, it’s decided.  See ya, Chicago, I’m movin’ to Canadia!  (Yes, I meant to write Canadia)  Who’s with me?!

HELL YEAH! Hockey is back in Winnipeg!

9 10 2011

Am I the only one who is SUPER excited that hockey is back in Winnipeg? I mean, seriously…listen to this crowd! If that isn’t a hyped crowd, I dont know what is.

Go Jets Go!

I’m a little late. The puck dropped at 5pm & right now the Jets are down by 4 with 6:21 left in the 3rd…but I figured I’d wait until all the awesome coverage was released to share it with all of you. I’m secretly hoping that this boosts their spirits & gives them some good luck.

They did a heartbreaking tribute for Rick Rypien. Seriously, don’t watch the video unless you have a box of tissues sitting next to you and you’re in the mood to weep like a baby because I’m still wiping my eyes and sniffling. RIP Rick. [click here]

Poor Mommy Rypien... </3 still breaks my heart

If you decided to be brave and watch the tribute, maybe singing along to Oh Canada will cheer you up. [click here]

Ooohhhh Caaaannnaaadddaaaaa

This next video gave me chills. The Winnipeg Video department gets a round of high-fives from me. But I guess if you weren’t obsessed with fighter jets — like S & I are — then it won’t really mean much to you. [click here]

Fighter Jets + L = drool fest

Anyway, congrats to the Winnipeg Jets on their season opener. I can’t wait to cheer you on & possibly get some Jets gear…just because.

Welcome to the new Winnipeg!

22 07 2011

Congrats to the Jets on their new logo! All new gear hits store today!

Ohhhhhhh Caaaannnadaaaa

I may have to buy myself some Jets apparel just simply because this is so cool! First game of the season for them is Oct 9th against the Canadians. I’ll most definitely be tuning in!

Simply Because I Can

22 07 2011

So I realized something tonight.

TRUTH!

And in honor of me admitting it and embracing it, I thought we could celebrate with some fun pictures of my favorite Canadian boys.

I know L won’t mind, in fact I have signed her up for the support group with me.

Our names are S & L, and we are addicted to Canadian hockey players.

Feel free to join us, we have a lot of fun!

Oh wait! Can’t forget this one! Yum!!!!

Boston & Florida take Toronto: Part Quatre

21 07 2011

Well Ladies & Gents, this is our last part to go through. Make sure you read to the end, it’s the best part…

Day Trois/Quatre

Like I said in the last post, Day 3 never really ended. It just kind of blurred into Day 4 & before we knew it we were back at Pearson on our way home. But before we get to that–I have to send out a shout out to our 3 Canadian boys from Kitchener/Waterloo who entertained us on our last stop of the night. I’m positive one was named Andrew…the other two were–uhh– Justin? Or was it John?? (Jaime the Ginger! That’s how I remembered it -S) And I feel like there was a Mike in there too. Well anyway, if you’re from the Kitchener area & you know of 3 guys who partied until the wee hours of the morning in Toronto with 2 American girls, tell them we say hi.

On a side note: we learned one thing when hanging with these boys…

If someone offers you a “Polar Bear” — just say no. BLEH! Most disgusting thing ever. Also, if you’re given the chance, order a Pornstar. It may look like toliet bowl cleaner–but it is AMAZING. (I was the brave soul who ordered that first and got all the teasing until they tried it -S)

So–Day 3/4 ended around 3am when S&I decided it’s probably best that we shut our eyes for at least 2 or 3 hours before our flights. We arrived at the airport around 7am & let me just say, everything Biznasty, JLupul, & other players have said about Pearson…is true. (We should have just stayed. I was hungover and the customs lines were WAYYYY too long -S)

he's not lying...

Anyway, S&I parted ways & went to our different terminals way too soon. She totally missed the best part of the vacation. About 20 minutes before my flight to Montreal boarded, you will NEVER guess who appeared at my gate…

ahaha this actually happened. here's proof.

Yup. 2 Pittsburgh Penguins prospects on their way home from Development Camp & I was the lucky girl who got to see them. Let me tell you, they look even better in person. I quickly did a little fan-girl squeal in my headbefore snapping a picture while they weren’t looking (sneaky, I know…). (And texting me all about it. I was ready to bite the bullet and just buy a ticket to Montreal! -S)

I’d be lying if I said they didn’t look my way…but I’m pretty sure it was because of the way I was dressed. You had to see it. I looked like a young girl who had just had the longest night ever & then had to wake up for an early flight the next morning….oh wait–

I sat there self-consciously in my Roots sweatpants (which look huge on me thanks to the “boyfriend” style), my Aaron Hill Jay’s shirt, and my Leafs hat as they looked my way & snickered. I looked like a walking Billboard for Toronto. No doubt they knew I was watching them, but I didn’t care–when would I ever see them again? Like any good girl, I resisted the urge to ask for an autograph & picture…instead I just snuck a peak of them sleeping on the plane. Yes, they looked like adorable sleeping puppies.

Day 4’s song is the best yet…

Hope you enjoyed reading about our vacation just as much as we enjoyed living it.

Boston & Florida take Toronto: Part Trois

20 07 2011

Day Trois

As always, our vacations just get better & more interesting as time goes on…

We decided to take a ferry over to the Toronto Islands in the morning for some needed beach time. But even a beach trip couldn’t be normal…

We made our way to Hanlon’s Point–hoping & praying that what we had read was just a myth. Unfortunately, we were wrong.

uhhh......?

Our stay the past couple of days had not been what we expected on the guy front. That being said, we definitely didn’t want to see them naked (Especially since they all seemed to be over the age of 60 -S). So God must have been watching over us because then he pointed us in this direction:

PHEW!

I’d like to say we were safe on our side of the beach, but look to our left once and our eyes burned. Once we decided we had seen enough naked people to last us a lifetime, we decided to head back to the mainland in search for some good ‘ole Poutine. Our noses brought us to an adorable little sports bar called Hoops–the food was delicious. Since this would be our last night in town, S had the brilliant idea of a bar crawl ending back at this bar for some late night Poutine to send us home with our belly’s full. We were also told that “this is the place to go between 12am-2am” — sounds familiar, eh?? (::cough::RealSports::cough::) But we decided to give it a shot anyway (We really should have just ended the day here. -S).

Back to the hotel it was to get ourselves ready for our last night out. Hemingway’s was our first stop– apparently, it’s where all the business men hit up to kick back and relax after a long week (Like suit-monkeys are even our type…NOT! -S). Let me just mention that we had declared this night a wine night. Keep that in mind as you read on. This place was such a bust, it’s not even funny. We decided to finish our bottle (Yes–we ordered a whole bottle. It was the only thing that was going to save us…) and make an early exit to our next bar.

Next stop was Madison’s Avenue–another “hit” according to a waitress we had that weekend. Another bust. Little to zero good wine selections & our “gay-dar” was going off…that or French Canadians are very touchy-feely with each other. Anyway, on any other night, that would have been a blast but tonight we were on a mission. We barely finished our 1 glass of wine–which by the way was the smallest glass I’ve ever seen on the face of the planet…

uhhh...where's the rest of the glass??

We ran out of there so fast–no, really…we ran–and headed back on the subway for what we thought we were going to call an “early night”. We made our way back to Hoops for our “late night” poutine fix (which didn’t actually happen “late” at all).

NOTE: notice the switch in beverage choices.

Only Beer & Liquor could fix this disaster of a night…

The bartender must have noticed our self-esteems were down & decided to “help us out”. He told us that this wasn’t exactly the area we wanted to be in but that there was a fun little bar just down the street that we may like. To be honest–this is the part in the night where things get blurry & I have no idea what the name of the place is (All I know is that it sounded Irish…I think -S).

Anyway, I’m stopping this post here because well–our last night ended on our last morning (3am). We’ll pick up the last part of the “night” during Part quatre tomorrow morning. :)

So, to be continued…

Oh and also, this song came on while we were eating Poutine the second time for the night. Once it came on, we knew it was time to leave.

Our first thoughts had something to do with Mike Comrie. *smashes head repeatedly against a wall* That’s when we knew that it just wasn’t our night…

Boston & Florida take Toronto: Part Deux

19 07 2011

Day Deux

Our first morning in Toronto started off with a job interview (wish me luck), followed by a day on Bloor St for a day of retail therapy. You just can’t leave Canada without a trip to LuLuLemon & Roots–or maybe it’s just us. (I mean COME ON, I bought a sweatshirt that folds into a pillow. Ingenious! -S)

Anyway, both of us couldn’t keep the smiles off our faces when we walked past the huge Hugo Boss store.

Every hockey players love.

My mind immediately flashed to Mike Green–which then made me giggle like a little girl…

1:20 marker for a look inside Mikey’s closet.

Love the BLaich commentary.

Anyway, back to Toronto. We came across this discovery.

We. Love. Canada.

Timbits (an assortment of everything they had under the counter–our taste buds were overwhelmed to say the least). Ketchup Chips — best thing ever invented. Fries & Gravy Chips — tastes just like Poutine!! SCORE!! And drumroll please…TEAM CANADA band-aids! (which I am wearing now because of a battle scar from Montreal’s airport–you can’t take me anywhere) How epic is that?! We don’t have Team USA band-aids… *sigh* only in Canada. (They proved handy when I fell in the middle of a cross walk that night in downtown Toronto and skinned my knee…Yes, my middle name is Grace -S)

Another bomb restaurant we headed to is called E11even (@e11evenToronto) –just like Gretzky’s & RealSports, you all should check it out. When you get your bill, they put it in an envelope that says “The Damage” — how clever is that??! (considering the fact that S & I can blow money in a restaurant super easy–scratch that–we can blow money anywhere we go)

For our night out we decided to head back to RealSports because the bartender says it is the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. What we failed to realize until AFTER was that we took advice from a female (problem #1) & TSwift was across the street (problem #2)–which means all sports-loving Canadian boys stayed as far away as they possibly could. This is just yet another reason we don’t like TSwift & next time we decided we’d ask the GUYS where to go…not a girl.

Our goal, so far of meeting cute Canadian boys (preferably hockey players), was shot down. We had a few lookers–but no one brave enough to say hi. We struck out–swinging…

So the song to end Friday night is a good one…

Tune in tomorrow for Part Trois.

Boston & Florida take Toronto: Part Un

18 07 2011

So *sighs heavily* we’re back in the States. We have so much to tell you all that we’ve decided to break our weekend recap segment up into parts: Part Un, Part Deux, Part Trois, et Part Quatre. (ha–clever, I know) We’ll post one part every day until we cover everything. Make sure you read all of them in order…& I promise, the last one is the best one. Be patient readers, we’ll get there.

Day Un

Both S & I had a 4am wake up call to get to the airports–talk about brutal. Our wheels hit the beautiful Canadian soil at 10:45am which means we still had most of the day to cause trouble explore. In true S & L fashion — our first adventure started the second we landed.

Rule #1 of traveling: Make sure you check the whole address before deciding that is the place to stay. Where we thought we would be was much different than where we actually were.

We wanted to be down by the water....but we happened to be North & just by Toronto University

Since we originally thought we’d be able to walk everywhere–our first task was to find out a way to make our way through the city. Subway. (And what L fails to mention here, is that she HATES trains. So proud of her for conquering her fear and both of us for not getting lost–Not even ONCE! -S)

A million times easier than Boston--thank god.

Anyway, we decided to make our very first day in Toronto dedicated to the thing we love the most…sports. Our first stop was Wayne Gretzky’s restaurant.

Rooftop patio...pure bliss.

Forgetting the fact that out waitress hated us (no really–she did)…it was a great restaurant & if you’re in the area I suggest you check it out.

Next stop was the Rogers Centre for the Jays game.

Proof that we can't travel together without going to a sporting event.

S took me literally when I said “cheap tickets” –level 500 & one loooooooong walk up the stadium but so worth it & I wouldn’t have changed a thing. The view was unreal. (I try…and I usually succeed. -S)

Something I'm not sure I'll ever forget...

Now, here is where we have a bit of a confession for you all. We cheated. We cheated on our Hockey Husbands for the night. JStaal & Tanger didn’t cross our minds once. GASP! The reason?? Well…2 Jays caught our eye.

#2–Aaron Hill & #26–Adam Lind

S' boy Adam Lind

Annnd...my beauty--Aaron Hill

Just like always… S & I end up always picking friends. These two were side-by-side the whole night. Just like JStall & Tanger or Stamkos & Downie. I swear someday S & I will marry best friends & live happily ever after. Anyway…we have our own “girl code” when it comes to calling dibs on athletes. He ain’t “yours” until you got his number on your back. (Kind of archaic but a firm, and sometimes funny, rule none the less -S) So the next morning, after my job interview (mwhaha–Toronto ain’t ready for me), we headed back to the Rogers Centre Pro Shop & claimed our boys. Hill is mine & S has Lind. It’s a done deal now. No trades are allowed. I may have to start watching baseball more often …

MONEY SHOT! Cha-ching!

S & I LOVE baseball uniforms...

To bring our first day to a close…we hit up RealSports (www.realsports.ca or @realsports). Voted the #1 Sports Bar in North America. Trust me, this place is a must-see. 2-story TV screen & about 99 other screens around the bar. And if that isn’t enough–the beautiful, sports-loving, Canadian boys seem to flock in 3’s to this place. (It’s the updated and much more entertaining version of Noah’s Ark- S) The very first time we went back in March–I swear we got whip lash.

huge bar. good food. epic drinks. great staff. awesome canadians.

everyone should go visit.

Finally, we wanted to do a little something. Each night (or ‘morning after’) we picked a song that best summed up the previous day. Here is Day Un.

(I am pretty sure we busted into a fit of giggles and thoughts of good old Max when this song played at RealSports-S)

Make sure you check back tomorrow for Boston & Florida take Toronto: Part Deux

Canucks take the West…so who takes the East?!

25 05 2011

Congrats Vancouver! We called it in the beginning! At least we can say one of our predictions were right! S and I are so happy that we get to hear another round of your country’s national anthem in preparation for our trip in July.

Western Conference Champs!

And it certainly isn’t awful that we have to look at Mr. Kesler’s face in the Cup Finals…

At least there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel...

So if the Bruins lose I can’t say I’ll be too disappointed. And I’m sure the same goes for S. We love Ry-Ry…and come on, the Sedin twins are awesome.

Well…it’s back to Tampa for the ECF…

focus B's focu--ooohhh pretty palm trees!!!

I like to consider this D-day. The B’s have a chance to shut this series down tonight, but we all know that the B’s play like crap unless their backs are up against the wall (which is not quite the situation just yet). I’m hoping the more and more I say Tampa will win tonight, the more I jinx them (sorry S) and my boys come out with a W to move onto the Cup Finals.

Plus, I would like to give Baby Seguin a chance to let this thing he calls a “playoff beard” grow a little more…

Come on baby boy...we know you can do better than that...

I will be sitting at home in front of the TV at 8pm tonight chomping down on my lip and talking to myself while I watch my boys play. No more chirping…just praying. This is serious.

Yeah, do it for the fans...

Us Bostonian’s believe in you B’s. Black & Gold baby, Black & Gold.
